Membership in Massage Professional Societies

Massage Therapy Professional Society Membership is important if you are going to take your career seriously, and you wish for others to do so as well. Joining a Professional Society is a way of letting your clients know that as a Massage Therapist, you hold yourself to high standards of conduct and professionalism.

The benefits of joining are numerous. Some Massage Professional Associations also provide Massage Liability Insurance as part of your yearly membership. Others do not. Besides this, there are discounts you can get from manufacturers of massage equipment, as well as other opportunities to save with participating businesses of all sorts. And some even offer their own accredited continuing education courses online!

But these are just the perks; the really important part is that you are putting your money behind an organization that stands for ethical, evidence-based Massage Therapy, and you get to display the logo of your Massage Professional Society, letting others know where you stand. Your Professional Society may also lobby or advocate for laws to help protect your profession.

If you are specializing in Oncology Massage, there's a special Professional Society dedicated just to that niche. And that is but one example; there are many other professional societies for Massage Practitioners dedicated to other specialized therapies. Of course, there is no limit to how many professional societes you may join, except that each costs money for membership dues.

As a student, you may be entitled to a discount. Your school may have already enrolled you in one of these societies as part of your tuition. Ask, and see if this is the case if you're currently a student. Member ship in at least one Massage Professional Society is highly recommended for therapists of all skill and experience levels.

A purple box surrounds associations that offer insurance in addition to being a professional society or association.
