California Massage License Requirements:
Liability Insurance: None
Designation: Certified (CMT, CMP)
Educational hours: 500/250 with exam
Renewal CEU* hrs/year: none/2
Exam(s) Required: California is a voluntary certification state. MBLEx OR NCBTMB can be used with 250 hours to become certified. Until 2011, Certified Massage Practitioner was a certification requiring only 250 hours of education. No new CMP certificates were issued after 2011

California does not require any hours of Massage Therapy Continuing Education Courses
NCBTMB Requirements for Board Certification Renewal: 24 hours Continuing Education every 2 years. Requires 3 hours of Ethics, 3 hours of Research. A 4 hour limit is in place for self-care coursework.
